Our Story
A Little Salty — and Proud of It.
In Wrangell, Alaska, you have to be a little salty to live here — so we figured we might as well put it in a jar.
Tide and Timber Salt Co. was born out of stubbornness, curiosity, and the simple truth that good flavor starts with where you live. We pull our seawater straight from the cold, clean tides of Southeast Alaska and evaporate it by hand — slow, old-fashioned, and always small batch.
But what really sets us apart? We grow all the ingredients we possibly can ourselves.
From garlic cloves and onions to herbs and specialty peppers, we grow them right here at our family farm in Wrangell; Oceanview Gardens- a few steps from the sea. We dig the garlic, dry the onions, harvest and dry the herbs, roast the espresso beans — then blend it all with pure Alaskan sea salt to create something you can’t find anywhere else.
Our Philosophy: From Sea to Soil to Salt.
There’s a lot of salt in the world — but not much like this.
We don’t cut corners or flavors. We grow them. We dry them. We mix them. We taste them. We curse the weather, celebrate the sunshine, and start all over again next season.
Because in Alaska, nothing comes easy — and that’s exactly what makes it good.

Next comes the coffee.
We started with salt.
Because, well… we’ve got plenty of ocean.
Coffee is a little trickier.
Dwane’s been roasting our own for years now—ever since I gave him a roaster for Christmas. What I thought was a gift turned into a full-blown experiment involving a lot of early mornings, a lot of coffee, and a surprising amount of opinions about beans.
We’d grow coffee if we could.
But until Southeast Alaska turns tropical, we’ll stick to sourcing good beans and roasting them ourselves.
Turns out, you have to be a little salty and a lot caffeinated to live here.
